Florida Retirement Communities and wellness at Lake Ashton. Hold on to your hats. We have so many wellness activities going on during February and March we may just have to sleep over at the Health and Fitness Center! First, the Health and Fitness Center Grand Opening Celebration will be held February 12,13,14, and 15. You will find a special insert in this newsletter listing activities, days and times. All activities are free and depending on your level of attendance, you may qualify for give aways and prizes! Some activities require signing up (these are clearly indicated on the insert) and others are drop by or “first come first served” in the case of smoothies and KC’s Big Dipper Ice Cream Custard! Please plan to join in as much as you can! The 2nd annual Health Extravaganza will be held on March 4th from 8:00-12:00. Last year’s Health Fair was a big success and we are hoping this year’s will continue the tradition! Complete information regarding vendors and services will soon be available. Because the Extravaganza will be held early in the month, we wanted to distribute information now about screenings that are available prior to the event or that needs early registration.

What Women and Men at Florida Retirement Communities Need to Know About Cardiovascular Risk
February is Women’s Heart awareness month. After the age of 50, more women die of heart attack than any other cause. The American Heart Association recommends assessing your waist measurement, which is an indicator of potential risk for heart disease. In women the measurement should be no more than 35” and men 40”. The measurement indicates a high level of fat hence the risk. Get out that tape measure! Conversations on Diabetes- our own Lake Ashton resident Kathy Trahan RN and a Certified Diabetic Educator will be offering another class on managing your diabetes. The next class begins Feb. 22nd. Watch for more info. More YOGA! Note on the wellness calendar two additional YOGA classes in February.
